Yes Youth Can: Confronting the Challenges of Aging Out

On January 22,2010, the teen staff of the Foster Care Campaign took another huge step in shedding light on the issues facing older foster youth and putting them on the map. At the request of Councilmember Tommy Wells, FCC youth organized a hearing on the education, living conditions and aging out of youth in the system.

Featuring the testimony of over a dozen youth, as well as community leaders and Child and Family Services Agency staff, the hearing was an incredible success. FCC is now strategizing how to move an advocacy agenda forward to address all the issues youth raised.

We thank Councilmember Wells for his leadership, Councilmember Michael Brown for his attendance, and all of the youth, community leaders and CFSA staff who were witnesses!
