On March 11, 2010, Nakea Paige, a member of the Foster Care Campaign’s staff for four years, testified at a Congressional Briefing on Rep. Stark’s (D-CA) “Every Child Deserves a Family Act.” Testifying on the importance of permanence- a stable, loving, long-term home- for every child, Nakea was able to raise her voice in support of an important bill.

Yes Youth Can: Confronting the Challenges of Aging Out

On January 22,2010, the teen staff of the Foster Care Campaign took another huge step in shedding light on the issues facing older foster youth and putting them on the map. At the request of Councilmember Tommy Wells, FCC youth organized a hearing on the education, living conditions and aging out of youth in the system.

Here at the Young Women’s Project, one of our core values is that our work be youth-focused and youth-led. Admittedly this is sometimes a challenge, for both the adult and teen staff. But we are often reminded of the power that each of our youth possesses, and it’s an awesome experience watching them discover it.
End of Summer 09 PHASE Updates!

Even though the teen staff is on break for a while longer, YWP is still excited about all that the PHASE staff accomplished this summer. From trainings to advocacy work to research, these young women are doing all that they can to improve the reproductive health of teens in DC.
